Helios Locking Pin Sleeve System

In the past, patellar fractures were generally thought to consist predominantly of simple two-part fractures, such as transverse fractures. However, with recent advances in imaging technology, it has become clear that even fractures appearing to be simple transverse types often involve three or more fragments and are, in fact, comminuted.

The patella plays a central role in the knee extension mechanism. When fractured, strong forces from the quadriceps tendon and patellar ligament act to displace the fragments proximally and distally, necessitating accurate reduction and rigid internal fixation.

The Himawari Technique, developed in Japan, has made it possible to treat patellar fractures that cannot be adequately managed by the traditional European technique of Tension Band Wiring (TBW).

The Helios Locking Pin Sleeve System was developed to enable the Himawari Method to be performed more simply and accurately.

Specifically, it features pins with a tip design that allows easy insertion, while maintaining a slim yet strong profile that minimizes interference between pins within the patella. The system also incorporates a thin, flexible, and durable cable for easy handling, along with compact and user-friendly instruments.

Another advantage of the Himawari Method is that its rigid fixation allows for early initiation of active rehabilitation. This facilitates faster recovery of knee flexion and extension function, enabling patients to return more quickly to their pre-injury condition.

The Helios Locking Pin Sleeve System not only improves the ease of surgical procedures but also supports better postoperative rehabilitation, thereby contributing to improved clinical outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.
